Twitter has found nothing wrong with Rep. Maxine Waters's account.

Through her Twitter account Tuesday, Waters said she had been hacked and that her Twitter account had been removed. The California Democrat also claimed to know who was guilty and that she would "take care of this."

Contrary to Waters's tweet, the social media company saw "no signs of account compromise," according to Reuters.

"As is standard, we have open lines of communication with her office and have worked with them to ensure the account is secure," a Twitter spokesperson told the outlet. "At this time, we've identified no signs of account compromise."

Many users said that Waters was using her verified Twitter account to make the announcement — something that would be difficult if her account had been hacked and deleted. Additionally, no detectable amount of posts had vanished from her account.

A spokesperson for Twitter told Insider it couldn't comment on Waters' tweet specifically.

"We can't comment on the Tweet, but, as is standard, we have open lines of communication with her office and have worked with them to ensure the account is secure," the spokesperson said. "At this time, we've identified no signs of account compromise."

According to ProPublica's Politwoops project, which tracks deleted tweets from members of Congress, Waters deleted six retweeted tweets soon after sharing them within the past 24 hours. It's unclear if her tweet Tuesday referenced any of those deleted retweets.

Whether or not her two Twitter accounts — her professional account as a Congresswoman or her reelection campaign's account — were hacked remains unclear, but neither show any signs of Bitcoin scam promotion or inappropriate likes, recent hallmarks of a politician's hacked Twitter profile.

Perhaps more confounding is Waters' claim that her Twitter account — again, unclear which one — was deleted. Her last tweet from her Congressional account, about Michael Jordan, Bubba Wallace and NASCAR, was posted Monday afternoon and is still active on her account. Meanwhile, her Twitter campaign hasn't been updated since June.

Waters, whose 43rd Congressional District encompasses the southern portion of Los Angeles County, has served in the House of Representatives since 1991 and currently chairs the House Financial Services Committee.

Waters has two Twitter accounts, as is typical for members of Congress. One account, @RepMaxineWaters, is her official account as a member of the US House of Representatives. Her other account, @MaxineWaters, is used as a personal and campaign account.

Neither account appeared to be deleted, as Waters claimed. Besides the tweet Tuesday morning, Waters last tweeted from her official statement on Monday. She hasn't used her private account since late June.
