According to the RealClearPolitics average, only 43.4 percent of Americans approve of Biden's job performance, with his rating taking a dive following the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, and continuing to plummet since then.
The president has taken a sharp decrease in popularity amongst independent voters. In the 2020 election, Biden emerged with a 13 point lead amongst independent voters, a group that former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lost by 4 points in 2016, as per CNN.
According to a Trafalgar Group poll conducted between Oct. 4 and 6, 59.5 percent of those categorized as no party or other said they disapprove of Biden's job performance.
A Politico poll states that 43 percent in respondents who identified as independents do approve of Biden's job performance.
According to an Investor's Business Daily poll, "Independents now disapprove of Biden's job performance by 45%-32%, a modest improvement over September's 50%-33% disapproval."
According to "polls that meet CNN's standards for reporting, Biden's net approval rating (approve-disapprove) among independents in polls completed in September and October stands at -16 points. Not surprisingly, his net approval rating is significantly higher among Democrats (+79 points) and lower among Republicans (-84 points)."
"That alone makes Biden less popular at this stage of his presidency than any president in the past 40 years except for Donald Trump," the Washington Post wrote as a comment to Biden's overall job performance poll numbers.
CNN has sounded the alarm on President Joe Biden's tanking numbers, describing them Friday as "not good" and a "very bad sign" as they continue to trend in the wrong direction. During a "New Day" segment focused on Biden's polling troubles, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten detailed Biden's hemorrhaging support amongst all political affiliations, but specifically pointed to his massive loss of independents as the main reason his numbers are underwater.
"President Biden’s poll numbers are, to use the technical term, not good. And for Democrats there are even more troubling numbers underneath the surface," host John Berman said to begin the segment. "The numbers here tell a clear story."
"They do tell a clear story. Again, to use the technical term, not good," Enten said before laying out how Biden's approval rating had dropped from 8 points positive in August to 5 points negative in October. "So essentially going in the wrong direction. Not good."
Enten described how a large majority of voters think that Biden had only accomplished "some or very little" since taking office.
"They don't think that Joe Biden has gone to office and done very much," he said. "If you're not doing anything, the real way to solve that is to do something."
