In response to getting complaints that she issues on Substack, a platform that she says is full of "relentless bigotry," writer Talia Bracha Lavin told her fans that she wants journalist Jesse Singal to be ousted from the platform.

The Twitter thread in question starts with Lavin announcing that she has a new piece coming out on her Substack about video games.

A fellow Twitter user called out Levin for using Substack, writing "I get the need to make money as an indie writer/journalist, but have you considered looking for a platform that doesn't explicitly cater to anti-trans agitators like Graham Linehan and Jesse Singal?"

"You're writing this to me on Twitter!" wrote Lavin, insinuating that Twitter is arguably a worse platform. "I think those people are disgusting bigots. But Substack has more trans writers than any newsroom in the country. And I don’t believe in ceding ground and whole platforms to bigots and reactionaries."

The fellow Twitter user, who goes by Faye, stressed that while Twitter had previously "deplatformed Glinner," Substack still enables him to publish, and allows him to profit from his works.

"If you're going to publish on Substack you should at least be vocal on that platform about its practice of platforming hate. If you signed a contract with a non-disparagement clause with them, you should consider withdrawing from that contract rather than promoting them," Faye added.

"I literally called them put for supporting transphobic and Islamophobic bigots in my first post," responded Lavin.

"Substack is home to its share of reactionaries, and particularly to those who indulge in relentless bigotry against Muslims and trans people," Lavin wrote in a Substack post.

"The same is, however, true of Twitter (where you likely encountered this) and in general I think it is a mistake to cede platforms to the loudest and cruelest, though they have found a lucrative niche in intellectual kayfabe and performative callousness. I hope to make this publication a space free of those scourges, except to critique them," the post continued.

Lavin noted in the Twitter thread that transgender writers Grace and Danny Lavery got "pretty big deals" from Substack, while Glinner did not.

"But I 1000% agree with you that Glinner and Single should be banned. I will try to make up for it by calling out transphobia as often as possible in my publication," Lavin concluded.

Singal responded to the thread on his Twitter, calling out Lyz Lenz for telling people to sign up for Lavin's Substack to make Glenn Greenwald mad. Greenwald had posted about the exchange concerning Singal, saying "These people are complete authoritarians who spend half their lives at least plotting to silence anyone who disagrees with them."
