A US Marine is going against the fact that they were required to paint over graffiti on the walls and pick up trash at the Kabul airport before leaving and handing it over to the Taliban.

The messages in many cases were put there by their fellow Marines themselves, or in some cases, Marines were ordered to clean up their own messages.v

The messages usually said something like "F*ck the Taliban" or "F*ck ISIS." One bit of graffiti was reportedly a picture of a penis and testicles in purple spray paint, according to the Daily Mail.

The anonymous Marine repeated his sense of injustice, saying "My boys had to go … pick up every last piece of trash, for who? The Taliban? It was a slap in the face to us."

The trash that was tossed around the airport was told to have had a strategic value of the time, as it would slow any possible Taliban advance in case they were able to breach security and breach the airport successfully.

It is believed that the trash cleanup was needed to stop any delays in efforts once Americans and their partners began to evacuate in earnest. However, the motive behind erasing the graffiti remains unclear at this time.

Way before the evacuations were able to be achieved, though, things went astray. Thirteen members of the US military were killed in a surprise attack at the Kabul Airport as the retreat was underway.

The bodies of dead children were found along the pathway to Abbey Gate in sewer canals lined with fences, with US service personnel sharing their horror at seeing them.

Gunshots could be heard from a nearby Taliban post. Servicemen and women said they learned to recognize the difference between warning shots and shots being fired to kill people, with the latter starting, then stopping.

"We wanted to be there," a Marine told the Washington Post. "And then we realize that maybe I don’t want to be here, watching these people wade through this s--- river and wave papers, and I have to tell them no."

The Washington Post's dispatch also gave interesting items on how the airport coped after being overwhelmed with Afghans after the country's former president Ashraf Ghani fled the country on August 15, effectively handing control of his government to the Taliban.

That saw Hamid Karzai inundated with thousands of Afghans wanting to run away. They trampled on runway lights, forcing US service staff to place water bottles in front of flashlights to create large pools of light along the side of the landing strip.
