Former President George W. Bush is throwing his fundraising backing behind Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in the race for Wyoming’s single U.S. House district, supporting one of the ten Republican House members who sided with Democrats in voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.

The Wall Street Journal announced Wednesday that one of Bush’s first campaign events of the 2022 midterms will be a fundraiser to assist Cheney.

Trump praised Wyoming property rights attorney Harriet Hageman to challenge Cheney earlier this month.

Cheney is the daughter of Bush’s vice president, Dick Cheney, and is one of the most candid critics of Trump. In return, Trump has named her a “warmongering fool” and a “horrible human being.”

As Breitbart News announced, Cheney voted to impeach Trump for incitement of insurrection after the January 6 Capitol riot, overlooking the fact the former president did not call for violence or lawlessness. Rather, he continually asked for peace as the chaos proceeded to explode.

As far back as January, the former president flagged the likelihood of supporting Cheney as his war with the party that took him to power proceeded.

Meanwhile, Cheney, on Thursday told former President Donald Trump to "bring it" after he announced his support for her Republican primary challenger.

Cheney has been the most prominent Republican to denounce Trump for his part in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and vote to impeach him. In response, Trump has promised to work to get her voted out of office.

According to the WSJ, Bush’s fundraiser is listed for Oct. 18 in Dallas with co-hosts to include Karl Rove, a longtime political adviser for Bush, and former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R., Texas), who worked as U.S. ambassador to NATO under Trump.

Trump said in a statement Thursday that he is endorsing Harriet Hageman, who is running against Cheney, calling the incumbent a “warmonger and a disloyal Republican."

"Unlike RINO Liz Cheney, Harriet is all in for America First,” Trump said, adding that Hageman has his endorsement in “replacing the Democrats number one provider of sound bites, Liz Cheney.”

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a staunch ally of the former president, announced throughout a campaign rally in Wyoming earlier this year Cheney has managed to do two things while in Congress: “Frustrate the agenda of President Trump and sell out to the forever war machine.”
