While a host of A-listers were arriving at the biggest night in the fashion calendar, a large crowd of protesters gathered outside the 2021 Met Gala in Manhattan.

Multiple arrests were made as dozens of NYPD officers clashed with the BLM protesters outside New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday.

In cellphone footage of the altercation, police can be heard yelling at demonstrators lining the streets to 'Move back!' while the protesters chant 'Black Lives Matter'.

A seven-second video clip shared on Twitter showed dozens of demonstrators standing outside the museum shouting: "If we don't get no justice, then they don't get no peace."

Alongside the footage, the Twitter user wrote: "There is a #BlackLivesMatter protest outside the #MetGala this year’s theme 'In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.'"

Another clip showed several protesters being taken away in handcuffs by police.

As hundreds of people looked on behind police barricades, one woman was heard screaming: "This is what they do... they don't care."

A copy of the flyer from the protest indicates that the protests were initiated by an 'autonomous group of NYC abolitionists who believe that policing does not protect and serve communities.'

'The NYPD has a total financial allocation of $11 billion per year. This money goes towards racist policing that destroys Black and brown communities while people who are struggling do not get the resources they need. CARE, not COPS, is the answer,' the flyer read.
