Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, a nominee to succeed the incumbent, according to her website, left the public defender's job to take on "pro bono activist defense work, part-time civil defender contract cases, and volunteer with the National Lawyers Guild" during the riots in 2020 in the wake of the death of George Floyd led by Antifa and BLM, probably to support the rioters.
One of the important causes of the surge in crime in Seattle has been the revolving-door justice system created by the current inhabitant of the office who regularly neglects to prosecute prolific offenders.

During the continuing riots in Seattle in August of 2020, Thomas-Kennedy related to police as "armed thugs," encouraged black bloc Antifa activists, and tweeted that "Property destruction is a moral imperative."
During an interview, Thomas-Kennedy claimed the remark "was a joke," and went on to decrease property damage in the wake of people being killed in relation to that loss of property. When pressed on the issue, Thomas-Kennedy disparaged property destruction in comparison with murder even though Antifa and BLM activists had attempted to burn down buildings in the city with people inside them. Possibly the abolitionist did not mind because the people inside were police officers.

Even though Thomas-Kenney insisted the tweet was a joke, she often echoes the viewpoint. When Antifa and BLM rioters lit a building site for the new Juvenile Detention Facility on fire she tweeted "Yay! Thank you to the heroes that set the Children's Jail on fire!"

Thomas-Kennedy's jokes became increasingly more aggressive when she replied to another tweet in September 2020 and said, "I have a gun, so I'll be bringing that. But thanks for the threat. lol."
On her website the public defender said she will legalize most crimes, claims the criminal justice system is racist and bigoted. According to an interview, the radical activist wants to cut the city attorney’s criminal division and stop prosecuting misdemeanors.

As such, the abolitionist neglects the duty of the City Attorney for justice for the victims of crime and rather will fund community-based organizations.
