A Texas congressman has proposed a bill with bipartisan support to help farmers and herders on the border deal with and property damage from illegal immigration.

Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) is the main sponsor of the bill, which calls for a new fund to be set up using $300 million in unspent COVID rescue dollars to reimburse farmers and ranchers on the front lines of the border crisis for the vandalism and damage they’re continually experiencing.

The legislation would designate the $300 million into a new fund to pay farmers for losses from illegal immigration, including livestock loss, crop loss and destruction, perimeter fence replacements, damages to physical structures, and property loss.

Ranchers are obliged to watch their fences for breaks 24-7 and instantly repair them to ensure their livestock can't fly onto the highway, threatening motorists, Brent Smith, the county attorney for Kinney, Texas, told Fox News. It’s a daily effort impacting the ranchers and their finances, he said.

“Texans should not be responsible for the losses at the hands of the Biden border crisis and are entitled to reimbursement for the damages they have sustained,” Rep. Vicente Gonzales (D-Texas), another sponsor of the bill, told Fox News.

The Biden administration has started fast-track deportation flights to Central America for migrants who have been denied asylum in the U.S. after arriving at the southern border.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had announced earlier this week that such flights would remain, and on Friday announced that flights sending aliens back to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras had resumed and were conducted via Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"Asylum and other legal migration pathways should be readily available to those who need them, and this Administration is committed to fairly and efficiently considering asylum claims," DHS said in a statement. "Those not seeking protection or who do not qualify will be promptly returned to their country of origin."

Those removed are those who are judged not to have a valid asylum claim and who are not able to be expelled via Title 42 public health protections. The Biden administration has been pushing most single adults under Title 4 2 but has not been discharging unaccompanied children or migrant families with children under the age of seven.

There were more than 188.000 immigrant encounters in June, signaling yet another increase in encounters under the Biden administration. It included a 25% increase in encounters of family units.
