Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany insisted Sunday her faith in God prevented her from ever telling a lie during her time working under former President Donald Trump.

During her speech before a group at conservative group Turning Point USA's Young Women's Leadership Summit Sunday, McEnany revived a moment during a press conference last year when a journalist asked whether she would "pledge to never lie to [journalists] from the podium."

She told reporters at the time, "I will never lie to you," a promise that was tested almost instantly by political pundits and critics.

McEnany repeated her promise from May 2020 during the Sunday speech, saying, "There was the question. 'Will you ever lie to us?' And I said without hesitation, 'No.'"

"And I never did," the former press secretary added. "As a woman of faith, as a mother of baby Blake, as a person who meticulously prepared at some of the world's hardest institutions, I never lied. I sourced my information."

Her response inspired cheers from the audience as she further claimed news media unfairly named her a "liar" during her time working for the Trump White House.

"Our motto was this: 'Offense only,'" McEnany said of the Trump administration's strategy when speaking to the press. "Because I knew what we were up against. Republicans always get the bad headlines, always get the false stories, always get the lies, if I can use that word, told by the press. There is one standard for Democrats and another for Republicans. And we must be on offense," she added.

Despite her past arguments, multiple fact-checking media sites have led to misleading statements made by the former press secretary, and some have been described as outright lies.

McEnany also used the moment on Sunday to give light on the recent report by the Interior Department's inspector general, which found Trump did not order federal police to clear protesters from Lafayette Park last summer so he could walk to a Washington, D.C., church for a photo-op. Multiple outlets at the time reported the park was cleared at Trump's direction.

The report, published Wednesday by the Interior Department's inspector general, said U.S. Park Police did not clear the park and nearby area of protesters on June 1, 2020, for Trump. Instead, the Park Police learned of Trump's interest in the site several hours after they had already started plans to clear the area to put up new fencing.

"The evidence we obtained did not support a finding that the USPP cleared the park to allow the president to survey the damage and walk to St. John's Church," the report said.
