The Austin American-Statesman, a left-leaning news outlet in Texas, wrote an article on the mass shooting that occurred early Saturday morning but refused to print the police's description of the at-large black male suspect.

At least 14 victims were left wounded. One suspect, described by local law enforcement as a slim black male with dreadlocks, fled the scene.

"The Austin American-Statesman is not including the [police's] description as it is too vague at this time to be useful in identifying the shooter and such publication could be harmful in perpetuating stereotypes," the editor's note reads at the bottom of the article, adding that reporting will be updated if more detailed information is released to the public and the press.

The shocking mass shooting incident, one of horribly many in recent time, occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning right on Austin's storied Sixth Street in the 400 block, which is the heart of its entertainment district.

As of this writing, two of the 14 people wounded are still in critical condition, and all of them were sent to hospital, with injuries ranging from moderate to critical.

"This does appear to be an isolated incident between two parties," Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon said. Austin police have arrested one man in connection with the overnight shooting, USA Today reported. The arrest was made by the local police department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

The gunfire erupted just before 1:30 a.m. on 6th Street, a popular area filled with bars and restaurants. The street is currently closed to vehicle traffic so that restaurants and bars could expand into the street.

"I cannot say that there is no further public danger at this point because the suspect is not in custody. It appears at this point to be isolated to this one area," Chacon said. "It's not clear at this point what sparked this off, but out of an abundance of caution, we have notified the FBI's joint terrorism task force," Chacon continued.

The suspect's identity was not released.

"We continue to work on this case and follow up on leads to apprehend the remaining suspect," the Austin Police Department said in a statement, adding that the U.S. Marshals helped with the arrest.

Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon described the violence as historic. "This is one of the most significant incidents that we've ever had happen in our city," he said at a news conference.

The first call about the shooting came in around 1:24 a.m., Chacon said, and multiple 911 calls followed.

"I'm happy to report no one has died," Chacon told reporters overnight near the area of 400 E. 6th Street, a popular spot filled with bars and restaurants.
