According to the official statement made by a judge, the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell is going to start this November. The aristocrat is charged for recruiting teenage girls for her partner, the infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein, to sexually abuse for more than ten years.

As written by U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan in an order, jury selection might take place in the middle of November, while opening statements are expected to take place on the 29th of November.

The mentioned order was issued the next day after the prosecutors told the judge that both sides agree with a trial to take place in November, even though the lawyers of defence preferred that would it start earlier, on the 8th, and prosecutors wanted it to start on the 29th of November.

Judge Alison J. Nathan said that jury selection can happen the week of the 15th of November. The judge has recently scrapped a July 12 trial date, due to the fact that defence lawyers complained that sex trafficking charges, which were added in March didn’t leave them enough time to investigate the new charges and prepare for trial.

Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now 59 years old, has been in jai at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn since last July, after she was arrested at a New Hampshire estate. Judge Nathan has denied bail three times, twice rejecting a $28.5 million proposed package that would have required Maxwell to remain in a New York City dwelling with 24-hour armed guards.

Judge Nathan also said that she believed Ghislaine Maxwell was a risk to flee despite the U.S. citizen’s claims that she was willing to renounce her citizenship in England and France to prove her willingness to appear for the scheduled trial.

Notably, Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to charges that she recruited teenage girls from 1994 to 2004 for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse them during encounters that sometimes were described as sexualized massages.

According to the information acquired from prosecutors, their case hinges mainly on the testimony of four women, who claim to be abused by Jeffrey Epstein, including two who say they were recruited when they were only 14 years old.

Defense lawyers made attempts to challenged the charges on numerous grounds, though Judge Nathan has rejected most of them. Consequently, they have only succeeded in severing perjury charges from those alleging sex abuse.

Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in August 2019 in a federal Manhattan lockup, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
