Liberals both on social media and television maintained that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin being condemned on all counts did not qualify as “justice,” with some prompting he deserved an even harder punishment.

On MSNBC, political contributor Jason Johnson stated that the guilty judgments for Chauvin published on Tuesday related to the death of George Floyd were not an instance of the “system working,” and he was not satisfied.

“Twitter stays arguing about the semantics,” sports journalist Cari Champion announced on Twitter. “I don’t care what y’all say- GEORGE FLOYD WAS MURDERED. Derek Chavin [sic] should be under the jail. These two things are true in this instance.”

“No matter the verdict,” model and podcaster Scottie Beam tweeted. “Unfortunately, It’s not enough for me.”

Former United States Attorney General Eric Holder took to social media to coincide with the thought that the guilty verdicts were “not enough.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went on Instagram Live after the verdict and told her millions of supporters that the judgment was not “justice” because true justice would mean that George Floyd was still alive.

"This verdict is not justice," she said in a Tuesday Instagram Live video. "Frankly, I don't even think we call it full accountability because there are multiple officers that were there. It wasn't just Derek Chauvin. And I also don't want this moment to be framed as this system working because it's not working, and that's what creates a lot of complexity in this moment."

"Justice is Adam Toledo getting tucked in by his mom tonight."

“I don’t want this to be framed as the system working—b/c it’s not working,” the New York Democrat announced. “It’s really important that this verdict is not used as a replacement for policy change.”

Ocasio-Cortez's remarks were similar to those of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who was the lead prosecutor in the case.

"That long, hard, painstaking work has culminated today," Ellison said on Tuesday. "I will not call today’s verdict justice, however, because justice implies true restoration. But it is accountability, which is the first step towards justice, and now the cause of justice is in your hands. And when I say your hands, I mean the hands of the people of the United States."

Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died last May after being arrested on suspicion of using a counterfeit $20 bill. Chauvin was taped placing his knee on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes as Floyd repeatedly said he could not breathe. Floyd's death led to months of demonstrations last summer, with many protesting racial inequality and police brutality.

Chauvin will be sentenced in eight weeks after being convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter. The former Minneapolis police officer faces a maximum 40 years in jail.
