Former President Trump criticized Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) after the governor vetoed a bill that would have blocked health care to transgender youth in the state.

According to former President Donald Trump, the decision by Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson to veto the bill, spells “the end of him!”

The governor “just vetoed a Bill that banned the CHEMICAL CASTRATION OF CHILDREN. ‘Bye-bye Asa,’ that’s the end of him!” Trump wrote in a Thursday statement.

In doing so, Trump also reiterated his endorsement of his former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, now a gubernatorial candidate.

"Asa Hutchinson, the lightweight RINO Governor of Arkansas, just vetoed a Bill that banned the CHEMICAL CASTRATION OF CHILDREN," Trump said in a statement Tuesday, using an acronym for "Republican in name only." “ 'Bye-bye Asap

“Fortunately for the Great State of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders will do a fantastic job as your next Governor!” he added.

The Republican-led legislative chambers then overrode the governor’s veto, meaning the bill will become law later this year.

On April 6, in a combative interview on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Hutchinson publicly defended his move.

“While in some instances the state must act to protect life, the state should not presume to jump into the middle of every medical, human and ethical issue,” he said. “This would be — and is — a vast government overreach.”

“I made it clear that if this was about prohibiting procedures, sex reassignment surgery, absolutely, I would have signed that bill. But this, again, is the first law in the nation that invokes the state between medical decisions, parents who consent to that, and the decision of the patient,” he stated.

Asked to answer people wondering whether chemically castrating children is a conservative value, he replied: “You have parents involved in very difficult decisions. You have physicians that are involved in these decisions and I go back to William Buckley, I go back to Ronald Reagan, the principles of our party, which believes in a limited role of government.”

“From what I’ve heard, he just doesn’t view this as a conservative governing policy," one Arkansas political strategist told The Hill this week. "He views it as the government trying to push policies on people’s lives, and it may be a fundamental disagreement between the conservative wing of the party and the more pragmatic wing.”

Hutchinson, one of the more moderate GOP governors in the country, is term-limited from running for another term.

Sanders, the former Trump aide, is among those seeking to replace him in 2022. Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is also currently in the running.

Neither have appeared to comment on the bill blocking sex surgeries for minors. Their campaigns have yet to respond to requests for comment.
