Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., asked whether the FBI and Department of Homeland Security were – or should have been – informed that the suspect who attacked Capitol Hill on Friday may have been a menace, or whether the agencies had been occupied with "woke training".

Some Republicans have been critical of works within the military and the national security community to focus on promoting a more progressive environment, which they assume the Biden administration has made a priority at the expense of national security.

The suspect, who has been recognized as a 25-year-old man from Indiana named Noah Green, hit a barricade at the Capitol on Friday in his car, killing Capitol Police officer William Evans and wounding a second officer. The suspect is said to have left his vehicle with a knife and jumped at officers. The suspect, who was shot, also died on Friday.

It seemed to be a "lone wolf" attack, sources told Fox News, and the suspect recognized himself as a follower of the Nation of Islam on Facebook.

A Facebook profile that appeared to belong to Green has since been taken down, but some posts were viewed by Fox News.

In one post Green honored Louis Farrakhan as "Jesus."

Other posts included videos of Farrakhan and an image of a donation it appeared Green had made to a chapter of the Nation of Islam.

The Nation of Islam is deemed a hate group, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, because of the "deeply racist, antisemitic and anti-LGBT rhetoric of its leaders," including Farrakhan.

The fallen officer was recognized as William Evans, who was called Billy. Evans was an 18-year veteran of the Capitol Police, and a member of the Capitol Division’s First Responder’s Unit, Pittman said.

The scope of the injuries to the second officer was not clear. The Capitol Police said in a statement early Friday evening that the officer "is in stable and non-life-threatening condition." Earlier, President Joe Biden had said the officer was "fighting for his life."

Pittman said, “I just ask that the public continue to keep the U.S. Capitol police and their families in your prayers. This has been an extremely difficult time for U.S. Capitol police after the events of Jan. 6, and now the events that have occurred here today,” Pittman said.

Robert Contee, acting chief of the D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department said that his department would take over the probe. "It does not appear to be terrorism-related," Contee said.
