Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has not yet explained how he will vote, telling CNN Friday that he would be speaking to Tanden “early next week.”

Sanders, the Senate budget committee chairman, throughout her Senate confirmation hearing censured Tanden for her time and administration at the Center for American Progress, the liberal think tank/advocacy group where she has served in a diversity of positions since 2003 including president and CEO.

In order to be confirmed to lead OMB, Tanden requires 50 votes, which would allow Vice President Kamala Harris to act as a tie-braker.
Tannen has met a wave of criticism from GOP lawmakers over her past remarks crashing Republican politicians.

In a statement, Manchin announced that he had examined Tanden’s previous tweets scrutinizing his colleagues, including Senate Budget Committee Chair Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

“I believe her overtly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next director of the Office of Management and Budget,” Manchin said. “For this reason, I cannot support her nomination. As I have said before, we must take meaningful steps to end the political division and dysfunction that pervades our politics.”

The White House so far is not conceding defeat. When asked whether he’d pull Tanden’s nomination Friday evening, Biden answered “no.”
“Neera Tanden is an accomplished policy expert who would be an excellent Budget Director and we look forward to the committee votes next week and to continuing to work toward her confirmation through engagement with both parties,” announced White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, last week challenged Tanden at the Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing and asked if she could be bipartisan examining her track record. Portman further read aloud some of Tanden’s insults leveled at various Republican lawmakers, including that "vampires have more heart than (Sen.) Ted Cruz," and that Collins is "the worst."
Tanden apologized, stating, "I deeply regret and apologize for my language and some of my past language."
