Asked to respond to Comey stating “the Republican Party has to be burned to the ground, in some form or fashion," the House Intelligence Committee ranking member maintained that Comey and his FBI, including agents still on duty today, are accountable for the GOP's difficulties and brought up special counsel John Durham's criminal inquiry into the Russia investigation.
"If it's going to survive, and we need two healthy parties to have a healthy democracy, it has to be rebuilt in some way,” he added. "I think you may see principled Republicans splitting off or finding a way to push the Trumpers off, so they can reconstitute the Republican Party on a set of real values."

"What the American people are waiting for and Republicans are waiting for is for John Durham to indict these guys and throw them in jail," he told Fox News host Jeanine Pirro in a segment that aired Saturday evening.

Durham, a U.S. attorney in Connecticut, was promoted to special counsel status by former Attorney General William Barr in October, granting extra protection against the Biden administration attempting to close his investigation into the Russia probe that started under Comey's watch. So far, Durham has got one guilty plea from a former FBI lawyer.

Comey, who once considered himself a Republican, was dismissed by former President Donald Trump in May 2017, after which he became a frequent doubter of the Trump administration. While on a media blitz for his new book, Saving Justice: Truth, Transparency, and Trust, he has repeatedly demanded the end of the GOP in its current form.

“Something is shifting and I’m hoping it’s the fault breaking apart, a break between the Trumpists and those people who want to try and build a responsible conservative party, because everybody should know that we need one," Comey said, "Who would want to be part of an organization that at its core is built on lies and racism and know-nothingism? It’s just not a healthy political organization."

“I still think it would be better for this country if we move past a fallen and corrupt president, and turned off the television lights on him, which in some ways, would be the greatest punishment he could imagine,” Comey said.
As Nunes remarked, Comey was the subject of a criminal referral by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz for leaking a memo describing his interactions with Trump, yet the agency declined to prosecute him.
"I don't know if the rest of his people skate or not," Nunes added.
