The most symbolic and basic element of the Trump administration was the building of the southern border wall, and his extra security measures on immigrants from Muslim countries. The Biden administration is determined to destroy anything left behind from Trump, and the first step would be stopping the symbols that President Trump elected in the first place.

President Biden will issue an executive order suspending any border wall construction, although it is not yet clear if the current fencing will be removed.

“Bipartisan majorities in Congress refused in 2019 to fund President Trump’s plans for a massive wall along our southern border, even after he shut down the government over this issue. He then wastefully diverted billions of dollars to that construction,” said his transition office in a statement.

“By proclamation, President-elect Biden will today declare an immediate termination of the national emergency declaration that was used as a pretext to justify some of the funding diversions for the wall.”

“This ban, which restricted issuance of visas to individuals from many Muslim and African countries, was nothing less than a stain on our nation. It was rooted in xenophobia and religious animus and President-elect Biden has been clear that we will not turn our back on our values with discriminatory bans on entry to the United States,” Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security adviser-designate, said on a call with reporters.

The Biden administration is playing the xenophobic card instead of facing reality and the threats that can and do come from the muslim world. For the Trump administration it was never about race or color, it was about the safety of the United States.
