Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., took to Twitter early Tuesday to declare that she has tested positive for COVID-19, and criticized several Republicans locked down with her throughout last week’s protest at the Capitol who did not wear masks.

Jayapal said that she was "locked down in a secured room at the Capitol where several Republicans not only cruelly refused to wear a mask but recklessly mocked colleagues and staff who offered them one."

Her office published a statement that said some members and staff were told by Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of the U.S. Congress, that those secured in that particular room had been exposed to "another occupant with coronavirus infection." She revealed they had been in the room for "multiple hours."

She argued there were over 100 people in the room and she thinks it was a "superspreader event."

The announcement appeared hours after another House Democratic Rep Bonnie Watson Coleman, who was similarly at the Capitol throughout the protests, said she tested positive.

“I received a positive test result for COVID-19, and am home resting at this time. While I am experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms, I remain in good spirits and will continue to work on behalf of my constituents," Watson Coleman said in a statement.

The Capitol protest ended in five deaths and at least 120 arrests. Democrats in the House want President Trump to be dismissed from office and call him a threat. Trump's followers have also denounced the violence, yet insist that Trump did not encourage the event.

“Too many Republicans have refused to take this pandemic and virus seriously, and in doing so, they endanger everyone around them," she said in a statement.

"Only hours after President Trump incited a deadly assault on our Capitol, our country, and our democracy, many Republicans still refused to take the bare minimum COVID-19 precaution and simply wear a damn mask in a crowded room during a pandemic — creating a superspreader event on top of a domestic terrorist attack," she posted.

She continued and explained that “I share the outrage and anger of my constituents and those across this country who have watched Donald Trump fail to combat this raging pandemic and refuse to take care of Americans who are suffering, dying, and devastated. Now, we have also watched him openly fuel and incite these insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol and our democracy on January 6 — so I will not rest until I do everything in my power to remove this President from office.”
