White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany refused to repeat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's confirmation of Joe Biden as president-elect.

"The president is still involved in ongoing litigation related to the election," McEnany told reporters on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Electoral College met all over the country to affirm Biden's win, providing the president-elect with 306 votes to President Trump's 232, 37 days after many outlets called the Nov. 3 election in Biden's favor on Nov. 11.

McEnany, alternatively, referred questions to the Trump campaign, calling the electors meeting "one step in the constitutional process."

Biden and McConnell talked over the phone on Tuesday after McConnell announced his former Senate colleague was the next president.

In her opening statement, McEnany further touted the rollout of the country's first COVID-19 vaccinations.

“The United States witnessed a medical miracle," she announced. She continued and said that Trump “has not only been an optimist, he has been a leader."

The matter has been vastly covered on social media as well. One user tweeted: “The Trump legal team only filed four cases but the left says they lost 50+ cases. A number of individuals who aren't affiliated with the Trump legal team filed cases. The left always can spread misinformation but heaven forbid we question the integrity of this election.”

Refusing to recognize the reality of the election has proven to be something of a litmus test for elected Republicans, with Trump and his base savaging and even advocating primary challenges against Republicans who break with him on the subject.

Retiring Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.) declared Tuesday that he was leaving the GOP over his colleagues’ refusal to recognize the result, which he said could inflict “long-term harm to our democracy." Outgoing Rep. Denver Riggleman, another outspoken critic of Trump, explained that “My guess is there are gonna be more people leaving the Republican Party if we continue down the road of fantasy over reality.”

Trump has further told aides he will never concede the election to Biden, and may make his 2020 election demonstration the base of another presidential run in 2024.

Trump spent Monday behind closed doors, holding meetings and tweeting. In the mid-afternoon, he signed an executive order on "increasing economic and geographic mobility," but reporters were not allowed to witness.

Trump's team still has legal actions pending in a few states, though judges and election officials have consistently denied their allegations of voter fraud. As members of the Electoral College met Monday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court rejected Trump's lawsuit in that state. The U.S. Supreme Court last week rejected a national complaint filed by Trump followers.
