Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams attended the state’s Electoral College meeting Monday, at times without wearing a mask despite coronavirus concerns and guidelines.

Abrams was the supervising officer of the state’s electors meeting where Georgia’s 16 Electoral College votes officially went to President-elect Joe Biden. They appeared on the floor of the Georgia Senate at the state Capitol in Atlanta.

She had on a mask, made of black cloth with white block letters spelling out “VOTE,” part of the meeting. On other occasions, including when she was speaking at the podium and sitting at a desk socially distant between two other electors, she was not wearing a mask.

At one time, she seemed to leave the podium, the mask in her hand, and walk back to her desk without putting it on.

"How about you keep 6 feet apart and keep your damn mask on. Stop spreading #COVID19 @staceyabram", one Twitter critic wrote.

Abrams, who had expressed concerns about voter suppression during her race against then-Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp in 2018, set her sights on tackling the issue by creating a multistate voting rights initiative called Fair Fight 2020 last year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced COVID-19 guidelines advising people to wear masks and remain at least 6 feet from others, especially indoors.

The other electors seemed to keep their masks on and mostly kept social distancing in the chamber.

The managing secretary kept his mask on while speaking from the podium at the head of the room.

Coronavirus deaths in the U.S. surpassed 300,000 this week, and new cases are on the rise in some states.

Abrams’ characterization rose dramatically on the national stage during her dominant race against now-Gov. Brian Kemp. She earned recognition from some Democrats for assisting in overturning the state for Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris this year.

The vote marks the first time in nearly three decades that the state has elected a Democrat to serve as president. The last instance before this election was in 1992 when Bill Clinton beat then-President George H.W. Bush to win the state.

Abrams tweeted on Monday that she was “honored” to preside over the meeting of her state’s electors and to cast her vote for both Biden and Harris, who will be the first woman, Black American and first South Asian American to serve as the nation’s vice president.
