One in six restaurants, a shocking 110,000, has had to shut down across America due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new data from the National Restaurant Association has shown.

According to a survey of 6,000 restaurants, 17 percent have closed since March. The restaurants on average had been open for 16 years and hired 32 people. It suggests that on a national scale, more than 3million people's jobs have been wasted.

The Association announced the overwhelming numbers in a letter to congress begging for a federal bailout soon.

They say that if more relief doesn't appear, 37 percent of the surviving restaurants will be forced to shut down in the first half of 2021.

'For nearly nine months, restaurants—our nation’s second-largest private sector employer—have been in an economic free fall as a result of mandated closures and capacity limits due to the coronavirus pandemic.

'The tide of restaurant closures and bankruptcies continues to rise—sweeping away jobs in some of the most venerated independent and chain restaurants. 'We predict that as of today, 17% of restaurants—more than 110,000 establishments—are completely closed,' Sean Kennedy Executive Vice President, Public Affairs, wrote in his letter to congress.

The industry is starving for a special bailout to satisfy their requirements. PPE - which was given to all businesses at the start of the year - has long run out. 'With business conditions deteriorating, more federal government assistance is critical for the survival of many restaurants.

While several other services have been authorized to resume safely, dining continues at the forefront of limitations.

As many as 12,000 restaurants are presumed to close in New York City - half of the city's total.

Another crackdown from officials in the fall makes it even harder for the industry to keep on going without federal assistance.

It seems like more and more business owners are getting furious with the restrictions. Angela Marsden is a perfect example, she called out for her mayor Eric Garcetti to reduce the restrictions in L.A: "I’m losing everything. Everything I own is being taken away from me and they set up a movie company right next to my outdoor patio//They have not given us money and they have shut us down. We cannot survive, my staff cannot survive.// Tell me that this is dangerous, but right next to me, as a slap in my face// this is safe? 50 feet away?// Mayor Garcetti and Gavin Newsom [are] responsible for every single person that doesn’t have unemployment, that does not have a job and all the businesses that are going under. We need your help. We need somebody to do something about this."
