Biden has two master's degrees and a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware.
She proceeded to teach at a community college while her husband was vice president and she plans to continue teaching even as the first lady.

"Teaching is my life’s work," she said through her spokesperson on Twitter Saturday.
"I teach because I love seeing the difference that I hope to make in my students’ lives. My goal is to always give them confidence in their own abilities because I know confidence will carry them well beyond my classroom in whatever they do."

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and other top Democrats are urging Biden to quickly use executive orders to cut some student debt when he is inaugurated next month.
"All on his own, President-elect Biden will have the ability to administratively cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt using the authority that Congress has already given to the Secretary of Education," the two-term senator told Jerome Powell throughout a Senate hearing.

Warren offered a resolution in September with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that describes a system for the next president to cancel up to $50,000 per borrower in student debt.

Biden said last month that he believes $10,000 per borrower of student debt should be released, though an official close to the president-elect previously said that it should happen through congressional action rather than an executive order.
The issue has grown a top matter in social media, one user wrote on Twitter: "Going to college when you're broke isn't an impossibility, but no one tells these kids how to properly manage their finances and the resources that they have. And that's how we got the massive student loan debt."

The Trump administration on Friday extended pandemic-era student loan assistance until after Biden takes office.
"The coronavirus pandemic has presented challenges for many students and borrowers, and this temporary pause in payments will help those who have been impacted," Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said in a statement Friday.
"The added time also allows Congress to do its job and determine what measures it believes are necessary and appropriate. The Congress, not the Executive Branch, is in charge of student loan policy."
