Sen. Ted Cruz crushed former CIA Director John Brennan for siding with “Iranian zealots” while “reflexively condemning Israel.”

“It’s bizarre to see a former head of the CIA consistently side with Iranian zealots who chant ‘Death to America.' And reflexively condemn Israel. Does Joe Biden agree?” The Texas Republican tweeted replying to Brennan naming the recent assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist as “highly reckless.”

Brennan responded to Cruz’s mugging by naming the senator “unworthy” of expressing his constituents.

“It is typical for you to mischaracterize my comment,” Brennan said. “Your lawless attitude & simple-minded approach to serious national security matters demonstrate that you are unworthy to represent the good people of Texas.”

Brennan continued and criticized Cruz in some other tweets, including one that called him a “poor Senator” and a “bad lawyer," after Cruz retweeted a post questioning whether Brennan violated the Logan Act.

Brennan, who directed the CIA for nearly four years throughout the Obama administration, was broadly criticized for his response to the assassination by many who pointed out the administration’s record dealing with Iran and Israel.

The assassinated scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, was recognized as the top architect of Iran’s nuclear program and was assassinated in broad daylight by what news outlets are describing as “terrorists.” However, Iran has accused Israel.

The semi official Fars news agency announced that he was assassinated in Absard, to the east of Tehran. It said witnesses heard the sound of an explosion and then gunfire. The attack targeted a car that Fakhrizadeh was in, the agency said.

"Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today," Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeted. "This cowardice -- with serious indications of Israeli role -- shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators."

"Iran calls on the int'l community-- and especially the EU -- to end their shameful double standards & condemn this act of state terror," he said.

Fakhrizadeh led Iran’s so-called “Amad,” or “Hope,” program, which Israel and the West defined as a military process to develop a nuke. The U.N. atomic agency alleged the program closed in the early 2000s.

Fakhrizadeh’s death will be another significant blow to the Tehran regime, which has struggled amid “maximum pressure” from the Trump administration and saw the U.S. abandon the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and impose many sanctions on the Islamic dictatorship.

The whole matter appears only a week after the New York Times reported that Trump asked senior advisers about his decisions to strike Iran's main nuclear site after international inspectors reported details about a notable increase in Iran's stockpile of nuclear material.
