A group of so-called ‘sovereign citizens’ who claim they own most of the land in the Western Hemisphere have been knocking on the doors of rich homeowners in the Seattle area and presenting fake documents claiming that their properties belong to them.

Moorish Sovereign Citizens have been marked as an extremist group of squatters who do not accept the authority of the United States government or its rules.

According to detectives in Snohomish County, Washington State, members of the group knocked on doors of waterfront homes in Woodway and Edmonds and said to the residents there that they were moving in.

‘They have basically come to say that they’re from this particular group and they’re there to repossess the home and want the people to vacate the premises,’ said Edmonds police Sergeant Josh McClure.

In each case, police were required to come to the area and the group cooperated after they were threatened that they could be arrested for trespassing.

Police said that the would-be squatters bring official-looking papers with them to ‘prove’ their allegations of ownership.

While these people have not performed any crime, investigators assume it's not the last try.

So far, the ‘sovereign citizens’ have targeted homes that have either recently been sold or put on the market.

In recent years there have been many bizarre cases of homeowners returning to their homes to find squatters inside who allege they are the true owners.

In December 2018, authorities in Georgia arrested a man after he moved into a $500,000 house that another family had just bought.

Joel Fedd, 33, maintained the home in Gwinnett County because he is an 'indigenous Moor' and as such had owned the land.

It is assumed that Fedd insisted he had a right to claim the land as there is a theory that Moors had found the Americas before Christopher Columbus.

In March 2013, a family of extremist squatters stayed in a $3million mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, before being evicted by an armed SWAT team.

There has been more to the group than just alleging land ownership, this one member was arrested and his car taken after a police officer pulled him over for holding fake "sovereign citizen" license plates on his car.

The officer stopped the oddly-plated car at 12:21 am on March 9th, after seeing the strange white rectangle on the vehicle. The man pulled over, yet then refused to present proof of insurance, vehicle registration paperwork, or any form of identification. He then continued refusing to exit his Chevy at the officer's call after a quick investigation showed that the vehicle's title had never been transferred.

Not surprisingly, this did not go well for the self-identified sovereign citizen; the driver was subsequently arrested for obstructing an officer and criminal traffic offenses, and his car taken off to the impound.
