The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been lately told to prepare for the chance that America will strike at Iran before President Donald Trump is set to leave office in favor of a new Joe Biden administration in January, senior Israeli officials said. Today, two days after that announcement, Iran reported that their chief nuclear scientist was shot and killed under suspicious circumstance and pointed the finger at the Jewish State.

The Israeli government has ordered the IDF to get prepared not based on any particular intel about immediate hostilities, but rather because senior Israeli officials assume that the period between now and Biden's expected inauguration on Jan. 20 to be extremely sensitive. As with the incident in Iran, Israel does not comment on military operations - at least not usually and certainly not the same day or week.

As Iran ponders and looks forward to a lucrative life with Biden, there are other reasons Israel marks this period as a delicate one, including Trump’s struggle to make a “better Middle East”.

Israel's Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer declared on Monday that it would be a mistake for the future Biden administration to go back to the Iran nuclear deal.

In a joint statement issued in tandem with the ambassadors of the UAE and Bahrain, Dermer advised the President-elect to better study "the reality in the Middle East" before performing any decisions about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

A more fruitful and better direction for the administration, Dermer suggested, would be to proceed and help broker deals between Israel and its Arab neighbors rather than a rapprochement with the Islamic Republic.

“Sit with your allies in the region. Talk to us in order to get to a common position on Iran," Dermer said in the statement.

"Not only on the nuclear issue but also about the Iranian aggression in the region. It will put the U.S. in a much better position to deal with Iran," he added.

Dermer is considered as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's closest adviser, and his comments reflect his position on the subject, according to Hebrew-language online publication Walla.

Last week, the news media announced that Trump had considered attacking an Iranian uranium enrichment facility.

The President raised the plan with national security staff after being notified of a report about Tehran having growing stockpiles of enriched uranium, key elements in the creation of nuclear arms. But top officials, among them Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned about the potential for regional escalations as an outcome of such a strike.

These are fraught times for the U.S.-Iran relations. And domestically, with Trump rising many legal challenges against vote tallies favoring Biden, stresses are also high on the homefront as Trump remains to repeat his conviction that he has secured a second term.
