A Pennsylvania court has ordered the state to stop work certifying results of the election until Friday while holding a hearing on a lawsuit trying to have all mail-in votes disqualified.

Rep. Mike Kelly, congressional nominee Sean Parnell, and eight other candidates claimed last month’s ruling to enable all voters to use mail-in ballots was illegal.

Associates of President Trump have experienced delay after delay in their attempts to prohibit mail-in ballots and flip election results around the nation.

But on Wednesday, Commonwealth Court Judge Patricia A. McCullough entered a preliminary order briefly blocking certification.

“Inasmuch as respondents, based on their press release and briefs, have not undertaken certification of any of the other results of the election, respondents are preliminarily enjoined from certifying the remaining results of the election, pending the evidentiary hearing," she wrote.

This followed a claim late on Tuesday evening in which the challengers also set out other methods the court could take, including blocking electors from meeting next month.

“Because the electors, by law, must perform their duties at the ‘seat of government of this Commonwealth,’ this court may also enjoin Respondents from permitting the electors to assemble at such location,” they wrote.

One long-shot chance for Trump is that states decline to confirm their results by Dec. 14, when electors are due to meet to select the 46th president of the United States. Under such conditions, loyal Republican state lawmakers might be able to disregard the popular vote and appoint electors who would give Trump the states that voted for President-elect Joe Biden.

With 99% of the vote counted, Biden leads Trump by more than 80,000 votes in Pennsylvania, according to multiple news outlets that have called him in the state.

A Pennsylvania claims court judge ordered state officials on Wednesday to stop any further steps toward verifying election results, a day after Gov. Tom Wolf said he had certified Democrat Joe Biden as the victor of the presidential election in Pennsylvania.

Wolf's administration immediately asked the state Supreme Court to bar the decision from becoming valid, saying there was no "conceivable justification" for it.

"Since the birth of our nation nearly 250 years ago, no court has ever issued an order purporting to interfere with a state's ascertainment of its presidential electors - until today," the administration said in its motion.

Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly and others challenged Saturday to claim approximately 2.5 million mail-in ballots that were predominantly cast by Democrats. They said the GOP-controlled state Legislature had failed to follow the customary method when they voted last year to extend mail-in voting. The state Supreme Court has twice this month overturned Republican objections over election issues.
