Several Roman Catholic leaders are concerned that President-elect Joe Biden will inflict policies, including abortion rights, that runs against the church’s education.

Los Angeles Archbishop José Gomez, who manages the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, told his associates on Tuesday the church could face a “difficult and complex situation” over jobs promoted by Biden, who is set to become the second Catholic president after John F. Kennedy.

“The president-elect has given us reason to think he will support some good policies” but also some that “undermine our preeminent priority of the elimination of abortion,” Gomez said.

“These policies pose a serious threat to the common good,” he continued.

“When politicians who profess the Catholic faith support them … it creates confusion among the faithful about what the church actually teaches on these questions.”

Gomez introduced the issue at the end of the USCCB’s two-day national event, adding that he would create a working group to discuss the topic.

“The president-elect has given us reason to think he will support some good policies” but also some that “undermine our preeminent priority of the elimination of abortion,” Gomez said.

His remarks came after some conservative bishops became upset last week when Gomez praised Biden on his electoral victory.

Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, on Thursday, urged the Democrat to “repent” for his support of abortion and marriage equality.

“As a bishop I beg Mr. Biden to repent of his dissent from Catholic teaching on abortion & marriage for his own salvation & for the good of our nation,” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

Some experts said it’s possible the group will discuss whether Biden — a practicing Roman Catholic — should be barred from partaking in Holy Communion.

Catholic anti-abortion activists believe the bishops follow through with tough words and action, making clear that Catholic politicians who support abortion are in violation of church education.

Biden’s policy agenda “is incompatible with the Catholic position on abortion and the protection of innocent human life,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a leading anti-abortion group.
