President-elect Joe Biden has called his longtime adviser Ron Klain to serve as his future White House chief of staff, the transition team said on Wednesday.

As a key member of the new administration, Klain will aid Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to build a team of advisers for his presidency, the Biden camp stated.

Klain, a Harvard Law School graduate, has served with Biden for decades, having advised the former representative from Delaware throughout his failed 1988 and 2008 presidential bids, served as his chief counsel of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1989 to 1992, and worked as chief of staff to the vice president from 2009 to 2012. He also worked as the White House Ebola Response coordinator under President Barack Obama throughout an outbreak of the lethal virus in 2014 and 2015.

Klain, who worked as Biden’s chief of staff throughout his vice presidency, assisted lead the Obama administration’s reply to the Ebola outbreak and has reportedly shown interest in the government response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden endorsed Klain’s work in the Obama administration in his statement delivered Wednesday.
