During a recent appearance on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Adviser, expressed uncertainty over the feasibility of a "credible plan" for an Israeli invasion of Rafah that would garner support from the White House.

Sullivan stated, "[W]e have made clear that our policy in Gaza will be determined by the steps Israel takes, both with respect to facilitating humanitarian assistance that can save lives, and with respect to civilian protection as it conducts its operations." He further emphasized the White House's profound concern about a significant military operation in Rafah, given its role as a critical aid entry point and shelter for over a million displaced individuals.

He elaborated, "And it's not clear to us that there can be a credible plan for where they go to have shelter, housing, medicine, and all of the things that they need." Sullivan confirmed that the U.S. continues to voice its concerns to the Israeli government both publicly and privately, and he has personally addressed the issue with them.

While refraining from divulging the specifics of sensitive diplomatic discussions, Sullivan reiterated, "the U.S. position on this issue remains clear. And Israel understands where we are coming from."

In conclusion, Sullivan added, "[W]e are going to continue to make our decisions based on what he believes is in the best interests of the American people and is most consistent with American values. That is what is guiding him today and it will guide him always through the remainder of this conflict."
