In a shocking case from Georgia, a father has been handed a 50-year prison sentence after being found guilty of attempting to murder his newborn child.

Curtis Jack, the convicted father, initially admitted to contaminating his infant's milk with anti-freeze, a confession he later retracted.

Despite the horrifying ordeal, the infant survived the poisoning incident.

The South Fulton Police Department reported that Jack was convicted on charges of first-degree cruelty to children and criminal attempt to commit murder. The department further revealed that Jack fathered a child with a coworker in 2020, following an intimate relationship. Despite Jack's insistence on abortion, the woman decided to carry the pregnancy to term.

The mother of the child was hospitalized post-delivery on September 24, 2020. A week later, Jack collected two bottles of breastmilk from the mother, which he laced with antifreeze before delivering them to the baby's grandmother. The infant consumed the poisoned milk and became critically ill within a day, as per the charging documents.

Although Jack initially confessed to the crime, citing his reluctance to pay child support as the motive, he later withdrew his confession. This motive baffled authorities, given Jack's well-paying job, as reported by WSB-TV.

South Fulton Police Sergeant Pserda Dickerson, the lead detective on the case, expressed her personal impact to WSB-TV, stating that the case "hit home because it was an 18-day-old baby."

The jury found Jack guilty on all counts during the trial, sealing his fate with a half-century behind bars.
