Do you remember how the media reacted when Donald Trump celebrated Cinco De Mayo with a Taco Bowl from a restaurant in Trump Tower? Why is the media not skewering the first lady over something that is actually insensitive? What she said yesterday in San Antonio was insulting and demeaning, and the media 'ate it up', pun intended.

Criticism came only from one Hispanic journalist group after First Lady Jill Biden said Latinos were as special as “breakfast tacos” and Bronx Bodegas during her 'LatinX' speech in San Antonio yesterday. By the way, most Hispanics in America hate the term LatinX, except AOC who coined the phrase. Spanish is a gender-based language with different endings to adjectives and verbs based on whether it is referencing a male or female. The LatinX is a way to replace Latino (male) or Latina (female) so that even an ancient language based in the Roman language Latin is not Gender Neutral.

CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS all glossed over the speech, with some anchors even calling her correlations 'sweet'.

Jill Biden was complimenting civil rights icon, Raul Yzaguirre, during the annual conference of UnidosUS when she made the strange praise.

Yzaguirre led the advocacy organization, which used to be known as the National Council of La Raza, for three decades.

“Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community — as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio — is your strength,” Biden said. When addressing the Bronx bodegas, though, she mispronounced the convenience stores and said “bogedas.”

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists slammed the comments, stating, “We are not tacos.”

“Using breakfast tacos to try to demonstrate the uniqueness of Latinos in San Antonio demonstrates a lack of cultural knowledge and sensitivity to the diversity of Latinos in the region,” the association wrote.

“NAHJ encourages Dr. Biden and her speech writing team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and communities. We are not tacos.

“Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by a variety of diasporas, cultures, and food traditions, and should not be reduced to a stereotype.” San Antonio has a population of about 1.5 million people that is 65% Hispanic or Latino, according to US Census data.

Conservatives also slammed Biden and wondered what liberal outrage would ensue if a Republican made those comments.

“No wonder Hispanics are fleeing the Democratic Party!” House Rep. Andy Biggs, an Arizona Republican tweeted.

The luncheon was explicitly focused on health response for Latino children and their families in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

The luncheon additionally featured Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchingson as a featured speaker and UnidosUS CEO Dr. Teresa Granillo as moderator.

Panelists include U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Sec. January Contreras and U.S. Department of Education Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development Assistant Sec. Roberto Rodríguez. The event streamed on FB Live.

In San Antonio, Mayor Ron Nirenberg on Saturday rebuked what he called “reckless” and “divisive” attacks on immigrants from the state’s Republican leaders.

Speaking to more than 1,000 attendees at the UnidosUS conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Saturday, Nirenberg said the progress the group had made on Latino rights was at risk of regressing in Texas. “Just days removed from the worst migrant tragedy in the history of our country … the Lieutenant Governor of Texas reminded us of that,” said Nirenberg, referring to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s remarks on Fox News Tuesday claiming Texas is being “invaded.”

“This cynical refrain, a racist trope, targets our Hispanic and immigrant communities,” said Nirenberg. “We cannot let bigotry become mainstream again.”
