Ocasio-Cortez announced only that her priority was "keeping a democracy for anybody to be president in the next couple of years" when questioned by Colbert during a Tuesday appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert whether the notion of running for president was "appealing" to the Democratic lawmaker, who will be 35 soon before the 2024 election.
"Listen, I think that we need to focus on keeping a democracy for anybody to be president in the next couple of years, and that's my central focus, is helping the people of this country," Ocasio-Cortez replied, laughing it off.

When pressed whether it was "possible," Ocasio-Cortez followed up with, "I don't know about all that."

The White House quelled speculation regarding challengers last year, affirming that President Joe Biden, the oldest elected president in U.S. history, intends to run for reelection in 2024.
Though Democrats have shown concerns regarding Biden's fitness to serve another four years, and Ocasio-Cortez has not announced whether she would back his bid for a second term.

If Ocasio-Cortez were to run, she would turn 35 weeks before the election, a stark contrast with Biden, who would be 82 if inaugurated to a second term.
Furthermore, a one-time challenger to Biden in the 2020 election, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has implied he would back the president if he decides to run again in 2024.
Conceding it’s “a little too early” to make a determination, Sanders explained to CNN that “Biden will probably run again, and if he runs again, I will support him.”

The Vermont independent, who was the runner-up in both the 2016 and 2020 Democratic primaries, has not ruled out a 2024 bid for himself yet announced he would only do so if Biden decided not to run.

A key voice in the Democratic Party, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer explained to the Daily Caller, “Yes,” when questioned whether he would back Biden in 2024.
Howard Dean, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has long called on Democrats in their 30s and 40s to run for president, claiming career politicians like Biden have spent too much time in office without achieving campaign pledges.

“We need to have specific examples of how we’re dealing with things; it can’t just be pie-in-the-sky and kumbaya,” he said to the New York Times.
Others in the DNC have likewise suggested Biden should only be a one-term president, stressing the party has to move in a different direction.
“To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,” said Steve Simeonidis, a DNC member from Miami. “[Biden] should announce his intent not to seek reelection in ’24 right after the midterms.”
