"Just imagine what they know. Just imagine what they know," CNN news anchor Don Lemon teased during the opening segment of his 10 pm broadcast on Wednesday.
Confusingly, rather than diving into the juicy details as to what led his former boss and President of CNN Jeff Zucker to resign, there was no examination, nor even a mention of the quitting of one of the most powerful executives in the media industry.
On Wednesday evening, the news network had an agenda all of its own, and reporting its own breaking news was not on its running orders.
Neither Lemon - who was featured prominently in a photo of Zucker and his lover Allison Gollust at a Billy Joel concert that helped expose their relationship - nor Anderson Cooper, who hosts two hours between 8 pm and 10 pm, informed their audience of Zucker's downfall.

Instead, Lemon kicked off the show with a deep dive into the work of the January 6th Committee which had grilled Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes for six hours via video link. While Cooper spent some of his time chatting up William Shatner about how the aging actor communicates with dogs.

Zucker, 56, the President of CNN Worldwide for the past nine years, was forced out of his $6 million-a-year job with very little notice earlier on Wednesday.

The official reason for his removal is his failure to disclose a romantic relationship with his closest colleague, Gollust, 49, CNN EVP, and chief marketing officer.
Not doing so was a violation of the company's Standards of Business Conduct.

SQUATTERS BEWARE AS GEORGIA GOVERNOR SIGNS TOUGH NEW LAW
However, late Wednesday night it was reported that Zucker and Gollust lobbied Andrew Cuomo to appear on their network during the pandemic - violating company policy and calling into question their own condemnation of Chris Cuomo's actions.
The pair contacted the then-governor of New York directly to attempt and convince him to appear on his brother Chris Cuomo's show during the pandemic, despite the brotherly interviews breaching journalistic protocols.
When Cuomo's team declined the offer, they would make direct appeals.
The revelations raise further questions about Zucker's handling of the Cuomo brothers saga and call into question Gollust's continued employment by the company.
Zucker was "outed" by lawyers working for fired anchor Chris Cuomo, who The New York Post reported went to Zucker's bosses, executives at parent company AT&T, to inform of his relationship.
