Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture held from December 26 to January 1. The seven-day celebration honors seven principles of African culture, which Karenga believed contributed to building and reinforcing community among African-Americans. It also incorporates seven symbols that are meant to represent values and concepts reflective of African culture.
