The political landscape has witnessed a significant shift in alliances over the years, with institutions once historically left-leaning now leaning right, and vice versa.

Some attribute this shift to the influence of Donald Trump, while others argue that this shift gave rise to Trump's political prominence.

A prime example of this political realignment is the changing relationship between Corporate America, unions, and blue-collar workers. The corporate embrace of globalism and mass immigration has distanced blue-collar workers, providing Trump with the leverage to reshape the Republican Party.

Following the Democrats' November losses, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) attributed his party's defeat to this very issue. However, some on the left have failed to recognize this, instead choosing to double down on contentious issues such as transgender rights, Israel protests, and energy policies.

According to RedState, the pharmaceutical industry, or Big Pharma, presents an even more striking example of this political realignment. Historically, Republicans have supported Big Pharma on free-market grounds, and in return, the industry has backed Republican campaigns. However, recent actions by Big Pharma, such as exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting medication abortions, and fueling transgender debates, have strained this relationship.

Consequently, one of Big Pharma's new allies is none other than Bernie Sanders.

Amid these shifting alliances, Big Pharma is attempting to undermine a federal program that primarily benefits conservative individuals, ostensibly on conservative grounds, to conserve their own profits. The advocacy group, Building America's Future, has launched a high-budget, multi-state campaign against the federal 340B program, claiming that it subsidizes healthcare for illegal immigrants and gender transitions for minors, thereby undermining the President's agenda.

The 340B program, however, primarily aids low-income, often uninsured patients in affording prescription drugs. The program mandates that drug manufacturers benefiting from taxpayer-funded programs like Medicaid offer discounted medicines to qualifying hospitals. Building America's Future, likely backed by Big Pharma, is targeting states considering local expansion of the 340B program.

Many of these hospitals are located in rural areas, serving working-class communities that overwhelmingly supported the president's re-election. Kentucky, for instance, is heavily reliant on the 340B program, with nearly 75 qualifying clinics and hospitals. The state's residents voted for Trump almost two to one, suggesting that 340B resources are primarily used to aid Trump supporters rather than illegal immigrants or transgender minors. However, Big Pharma's opposition to the 340B program suggests a desire to eliminate these discounts, potentially harming the very communities that support them.

The irony is not lost that Big Pharma is targeting the 340B program in Kentucky, a state heavily impacted by the opioid epidemic, largely caused by the pharmaceutical industry's irresponsible distribution of OxyContin. Furthermore, it is hypocritical for Big Pharma to argue for the protection of minors from transgender hormone treatments when they are the ones profiting from this market.

Major pharmaceutical companies like Eli Lilly, Viatris, AbbVie, ASCEND Therapeutics, Pfizer, Novartis, and Endo International are all profiting from the lucrative transgender hormone market. These companies know that if they can get a young person hooked on non-FDA-approved puberty blockers, they have a lifelong customer.

The pharmaceutical industry's revenue is soaring, with Eli Lilly's revenue reaching nearly $41 billion at the end of the year, a 27.4 percent increase from 2023. These companies can certainly afford to continue providing federally mandated discounts at qualifying hospitals under the 340B program. If they truly wish to protect children from life-altering drugs, they should cease their production.

In the face of Big Pharma's political maneuvering, it is crucial for conservatives to take a stand and refuse to dance to their tune.
