This claim was made by Epstein's former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, a former Westchester cop and convicted murderer.
As reported by The New York Post, Tartaglione shared his cell with Epstein at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan in the weeks leading up to Epstein's death in August 2019. Tartaglione claims that Epstein confided in him about the proposed deal following a meeting with federal prosecutors.

Tartaglione recalls Epstein asking him, “When you were a cop, what do you know about proffers and cooperating?” Tartaglione responded, “Jeff, it’s pretty simple, the prosecutors, you know, they caught a fish — you. They’re not gonna let that fish off the hook unless you give them a bigger fish.” According to Tartaglione, Epstein then revealed, “They told me they’d let me plead out something small, and I’ll do just a couple of years in a camp, if I can give them something on Trump to get him impeached.”

Epstein allegedly further claimed that the government told him he didn’t have to substantiate his allegations against Trump, as long as Trump’s team couldn’t disprove them. Tartaglione added that Epstein contemplated “making stuff up” to secure his freedom, though it remains unclear what Epstein ultimately decided.

Tartaglione, aged 57, was convicted in 2023 for the murder of four individuals, including a man he tortured and strangled over stolen drug money. The former Briarcliff Manor cop was sentenced last year to four consecutive life sentences.
In July 2019, Epstein was discovered with bruises on his neck while sharing a cell with Tartaglione. Epstein claimed to his lawyers that Tartaglione had “roughed him up,” an accusation Tartaglione denied. Following this incident, Epstein was removed from Tartaglione’s cell and placed on suicide watch. He died by suicide three weeks later on August 10, sparking speculation about possible foul play. A report from the Department of Justice Inspector General revealed that Epstein was alone at the time of his death, despite protocol dictating he should have had a cellmate.

At the time of his death, Epstein was facing numerous charges from federal prosecutors, including sex trafficking of minors and sexual exploitation and abuse. Tartaglione claims that Epstein admitted to knowing Trump only socially and not being on friendly terms with him. Epstein allegedly told Tartaglione that Trump had once ejected him from a party at Mar-a-Lago for being flirtatious with young women.

Tartaglione also suggested that Epstein was considering turning informant to protect his “girlfriend,” likely referring to Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years for sex trafficking in 2022.
Epstein's brother, Mark Epstein, told The Post last year that before his death, Epstein claimed to have enough damaging information on both Trump and Hillary Clinton to potentially disrupt the 2016 election.

Jessica Reed Kraus, a California-based self-described journalist who recorded and posted her conversation with Tartaglione on her Substack, also reported that Tartaglione was choked and stabbed by other inmates in October. The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on this matter.

Legal experts consulted by The Post suggested that the alleged offer to Epstein by federal prosecutors was plausible. Alan Dershowitz, a close confidante of Trump who represented him during his first impeachment trial, stated, “Anything is possible when it comes to high-profile cases like this. They are career makers.” Defense lawyer Jason Goldman added, “Federal prosecutors in particular are known to conduct these types of proffer sessions. Defendants facing extreme sentences are pressured to name names and conform to the government’s version of the ‘truth,’ even where there may be resistance.”

These revelations, if true, raise serious questions about the tactics employed by federal prosecutors in high-profile cases. The alleged offer to Epstein and the subsequent threat to prosecute Maxwell underscore the lengths to which the government may go to secure convictions and make cases. The truth of these allegations remains to be seen, but they certainly cast a shadow over the integrity of the justice system.
