In a further escalation, China added four U.S. companies to its "Unreliable Entity List" on January 15. This move was seen as a response to the U.S. government's recent arms sales to Taiwan.

During his first term, Trump implemented various trade restrictions against Beijing, sparking a contentious trade dispute with Xi's country. As he prepares to return to the White House on January 20, it remains to be seen how these trade issues will be addressed and what impact they will have on U.S.-China relations.
