In a shocking development, a participant in the infamous January 6th Capitol riot was found guilty of plotting to murder law enforcement personnel, including the FBI agents investigating him.

This startling revelation was made public by the Justice Department on Wednesday.

Edward Kelley, a 35-year-old resident of Maryville, Tennessee, was previously convicted for assaulting law enforcement officers and committing other crimes during the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021. According to Fox News, Kelley was convicted on Wednesday of conspiracy to murder employees of the United States, solicitation to commit a crime of violence, and influencing or retaliating against federal officials by threat.

The jury reached a unanimous verdict after an hour of deliberation, following a three-day trial, as reported by WBIR-TV. The trial, held in Knoxville, Tennessee, unveiled Kelley's sinister plan. Federal prosecutors revealed that while awaiting trial for his involvement in the Capitol riot, Kelley had developed a "kill list" of FBI agents and others involved in the investigation of his January 6th conduct.

Authorities disclosed that Kelley had distributed this list, along with videos containing images of the targeted FBI employees, to a co-conspirator as part of his malevolent "mission." Austin Carter, Kelley's co-defendant, who pleaded guilty in November 2023 to conspiracy to kill FBI agents and is awaiting sentencing, provided damning testimony. Carter revealed that Kelley expressed a need to "take out" the FBI, and that they had planned attacks on the Knoxville FBI Field Office using car bombs and incendiary devices attached to drones.

Carter's testimony also shed light on the conspirators' discussions about assassinating FBI employees in their homes and public places such as movie theaters. Prosecutors introduced recordings that captured Kelley directing the plan, issuing orders to "start it," "attack," and "take out their office" in the event of his arrest. Kelley was also recorded stating: "Every hit has to hurt. Every hit has to hurt," authorities said.

Kelley's sentencing is scheduled for May 7, 2025, and he could face a life sentence. This case serves as a stark reminder of the threats faced by law enforcement personnel in their pursuit of justice, and the lengths to which some individuals will go to evade accountability for their actions.
