In a recent interview with Elon Musk, former President Donald Trump suggested that should he lose the upcoming election, he might consider relocating to Venezuela, a country he perceives as "far safer" than the United States.

The former President's comments were made during a two-hour conversation with Musk on X's Spaces, where he expressed concerns about the safety of the United States due to what he perceives as an influx of criminals from other countries.

Trump's comments were centered around his belief that countries like Venezuela are "emptying out" their prisons and sending criminals, including murderers and rapists, to the United States. "If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we'll meet the next time in Venezuela, because it'll be a far safer place to meet than our country," Trump told Musk. He further suggested that the two of them could have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela.

According to the Daily Mail, Trump claimed that crime in Venezuela has decreased by 72 percent, attributing this to the alleged release of "drug dealers", "murderers", "rapists" and other violent criminals from prison. "Venezuela has not gotten rid of all of them. They've gotten rid of about 70 percent of their really bad people," he said. "Their jails are about 50 percent, put into the United States. Same with other countries, over 30 percent. Some are at 50 percent. They're all different."

Trump's comments reflect his long-standing belief that other countries are sending criminals across the border, leading to an increase in crime rates in the United States. However, studies have shown that immigrants, including those in the U.S. illegally, do not commit crimes at a higher rate than native-born Americans.

The former President also expressed concern about the state of New York City, which he claimed has become "overwhelmed" with illegal immigration. He cited a recent incident in which a woman was raped and a man was stabbed. "I saw it today in New York, where somebody was knifed, where they raped the girlfriend of a man that stood there watching in New York in one of the shelters and started pulling out the knives," he said.

Trump's comments were in reference to an incident in which a 46-year-old woman was raped at knifepoint by a suspected migrant next to the Coney Island boardwalk. Another asylum seeker reportedly fought off her 34-year-old boyfriend. The attack, which occurred outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, resulted in the arrest of rumored Nicaraguan migrant David Davon-Bonilla, 24, and 37-year-old Mexican Leovando Moreno.

Trump also referenced a violent clash outside the Randall's Island mega shelter that resulted in a migrant being stabbed in the stomach. The 26-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is understood to be in stable condition. No arrests have yet been made in the case.

The former President criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' immigration record, accusing her of overseeing a significant increase in unauthorized border crossings during her tenure as the 'border czar'. "She was the border czar, and people can't allow them to get away with their disinformation campaign," Trump said. "Now, she's saying she wasn't really involved … she was totally in charge."

Trump also inflated the number of illegal migrants that have come to the U.S. under the Biden-Harris Administration. "You have millions of people coming in a month," he told Musk. "They are coming in from everywhere and they have another five months." However, data from Customs and Border Protection shows that in June - the most recent monthly report - only 205,019 so-called border 'encounters' were recorded.

Trump's comments during the interview reflect his conservative perspective on immigration and border security. His remarks echo the sentiments of many conservatives who believe in limited government, individual freedom, and the importance of maintaining traditional values. These views often include a focus on strong border security and a critical stance towards liberal or progressive viewpoints on immigration.

Despite his criticisms of the current state of immigration in the United States, Trump made a surprising claim during the interview, stating that "illegal immigration saved my life". He was referring to an assassination attempt during his campaign rally on July 13, where he alleged that gunman Thomas Crooks missed because Trump had turned his head to look at an illegal immigration chart. The bullet instead grazed his ear.
