The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced its intent to oversee Arizona's adherence to federal election laws during the primary election on July 30.

The focus of this scrutiny will be Maricopa County, a pivotal region in the swing state of Arizona.

As reported by The Post Millennial, the DOJ issued a press release on July 29, declaring, "The Justice Department announced today that it will monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws in Maricopa County, Arizona, for the July 30 primary election." The upcoming Tuesday election will determine the primary contenders vying to succeed Senator Kyrsten Sinema, as well as candidates for several Congressional districts.

The press release further stated, "The department regularly deploys its staff to monitor for compliance with federal civil rights laws in elections in communities all across the country. In addition, the division also deploys federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management, where authorized by federal court order."

This intervention by the DOJ follows a series of concerns raised about potential election interference in Maricopa County, particularly after significant delays were experienced during the 2022 GOP primary election. Suspicions have also been raised about the reliability of Dominion voting machines used in the county. During the 2022 midterm elections, these machines malfunctioned, causing poll workers to inform voters of difficulties in casting their votes.

Kari Lake, one of the candidates for the upcoming GOP primary for the U.S. Senate, voiced her concerns at the time, stating, "I am getting flooded with calls and text messages from people who are having trouble voting all over Maricopa County. THIS is why we must reform our elections."

The GOP primary in Arizona will see candidates including Kari Lake, Matt Lamb, and Elizabeth Reye competing for the U.S. Senate seat. GOP primaries for the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as other local elections, will also be held on the same day.
