Vice Presidential candidate, Senator JD Vance, has found himself at the center of a storm of criticism from Democrats and media outlets for his remarks on family values.

Vance, who joined the Trump campaign as the former president's running mate, has been making statements that emphasize the importance of family, work, and the middle class. However, these comments have been misconstrued and taken out of context, painting the VP candidate as an anti-feminist figure.

"Why have we let the Democrat Party become controlled by people who don't have children?" Vance questioned, expressing empathy for those who wish to start families but are unable to do so for various reasons. "There have always been people like that, who even though they would like to have kids, are unable to have them. Let's set them aside," he added, according to The Post Millennial.

Media outlets such as ABC, NBC, and MSNBC have taken Vance's comments out of context, using them to criticize not only Vance and the Trump campaign, but also American families who prioritize the future of the nation over materialism. "JD Vance slammed for 'childless cat ladies' comment," read ABC's headline, while NBC reported "Jennifer Aniston slams JD Vance over 'childless cat ladies' comment from resurfaced interview." MSNBC added to the criticism with the comment "Jesus did not have children."

"I want to take aim at the left, specifically the childless left, because I think the rejection of the American family is perhaps the most pernicious and most evil thing the left has done in this country," Vance stated during a 2021 talk at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. He emphasized the importance of family in American life and happiness, drawing on his bestselling book, Hillbilly Elegy.

During an appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight, Vance clarified his comments, stating, "What I was basically saying is that we're effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and they want to make the rest of the country miserable too."

Vance further pointed out that prominent Democrats such as Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez do not have children of their own. He questioned why the country is being led by individuals who do not have a direct stake in its future. "I just wanted to ask that question and propose that maybe if we wanted a healthy ruling class in this country we should invest more, we should vote more, we should support more people who actually have kids, because those are the people who ultimately have more of a direct stake in the future of this country," Vance suggested.

Vance also criticized those who prioritize their careers and material wealth over family and children. He pointed out that many women who reach an age where natural childbirth is no longer an option often regret prioritizing their careers over starting a family. He accused Democrats of encouraging women to remain single and childless by devaluing marriage and motherhood and promoting abortion as a path to freedom.

"These people recognize that they're unhappy," Vance observed, "they live in one-bedroom apartments in New York City, they've played their entire lives to win a status game, they're obsessed with their jobs, they're obsessed with their wealth and with their fortunes, and they look at middle American people who are actually pretty happy with their lives and the choices that they've made. And they hate normal Americans for choosing family over these ridiculous DC and New York status games."

Vance's comments have sparked outrage among celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston. "When somebody calls out that 'look, if you're a miserable cat lady, you should not force your misery on the rest of the country, they just get really upset about it," Vance noted. He argued that journalists who derive their self-worth from their jobs rather than their families are among the most miserable people in the mainstream media. "People who know where they came from, people who come home at night and see the face of a smiling kid, whatever their profession, I think they're happier, I think they're healthier, and they're going to be better prepared to actually lead this country," Vance asserted.

Vance's message of prioritizing family over wealth and status was once a widely accepted truth in the United States. He argues that job and career are not the keys to happiness and that private jets and gold cards cannot compare to the joy of family life. This was a truth that liberals understood and preached in the past.

Contrary to accusations of misogyny, Vance is an advocate for American families. "We should worry," he stated, "that in America, family formation, our birth rates, a ton of indicators of family health have collapsed." He believes this should be treated as a crisis in the country because it affects the happiness of the media, the investment of leaders in the future of the country, and because "we know that babies are good."
