President Biden, currently facing a barrage of criticism, is slated to address the media in a solo press conference on Thursday afternoon.

This event marks his first public interaction with the press since his widely criticized debate performance, which has thrown his 2024 re-election campaign into a state of chaos.

According to The New York Post, the 81-year-old President plans to conclude the NATO summit in Washington with this press conference. The summit was intended to highlight his global leadership skills. Now, however, the President finds himself in a position where he must demonstrate to the American public that he is fit to serve another term. The press conference is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with the President set to field questions from the White House press corps.

The press conference, repeatedly referred to as a "big boy press conference" by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, will serve as a test of Biden's impromptu speaking abilities. His stamina and effectiveness will also be under intense scrutiny.

Since his disastrous debate on June 27, Biden has largely stuck to prepared remarks in his public appearances, in an attempt to quell the growing demands for him to step down and make way for a new Democratic presidential nominee. In a pre-recorded interview with ABC News last week, Biden attributed his poor performance at the debate to a cold, denying any cognitive issues.

Despite his efforts to increase his public visibility, Biden's recent appearances have been brief. He spoke for just 10 minutes at a Philadelphia church and a Harrisburg rally during his campaign in Pennsylvania on Sunday. On Monday, he made a call-in to MSNBC's "Morning Joe," daring disgruntled "elites" in his own party to challenge him publicly and reaffirming his intention to stay in the race.

On Tuesday, Biden delivered a speech to kick off NATO's annual summit, reading carefully from teleprompters. The speech was not without its hiccups, including a minor stumble over the pronunciation of "Ukraine." As the President prepares for his upcoming press conference, the nation watches, waiting to see if he can regain his footing and reestablish his leadership credibility.
