In a recent hearing of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia launched a verbal onslaught against Anthony Fauci, the former chief medical adviser for the Biden administration and director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases.

Greene, a right-wing figure known for her conspiracy theories, accused Fauci of being responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic and demanded his prosecution.

The Republicans have been attempting to establish that Fauci deliberately concealed information about the origins of COVID-19 and funded the research that led to the pandemic, resulting in millions of deaths worldwide. Greene took issue with Fauci's previous statements, where he suggested that criticisms against him were essentially criticisms against science. She questioned whether he represented science, to which she received no definitive response.

Greene, in a display of her disapproval, refused to address Fauci as 'Dr. Fauci,' opting instead for 'Mr. Fauci.' She further expressed her disgust at Fauci's alleged approval of experiments conducted on beagles under the National Institutes of Health. "As a dog lover, I want to tell you this is disgusting and evil, what you signed off on," she said, adding that American taxpayers did not fund these experiments for animals to be tortured.

The hearing took a dramatic turn when Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the leading Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, questioned Chairman Brad Wenstrup about the committee's rules regarding the denial of a doctor's credentials. Greene interjected, stating that Fauci did not deserve his license and should be imprisoned.

Representative Kwesi Mfume of Maryland expressed his disappointment at the proceedings, questioning the state of affairs. "Is this what we have become? Is this what we have devolved into?" he asked.

Greene also accused Fauci of fabricating the six-feet social distancing rule during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fauci countered, stating that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had established the guideline, and it was not based on science.

In response, Greene presented images of the dogs experimented on, arguing that it demonstrated the type of science they valued. She accused Fauci of promoting "repulsive evil science" and suggested that the committee should recommend his prosecution for crimes against humanity.

Representative Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California, criticized Greene's comments, labeling them as "completely irresponsible." He described the hearing as the most "insane" one he had attended. Throughout the hearing, Garcia and other Democrats apologized to Fauci for the Republicans' attacks, acknowledging the numerous death threats he and his family had received.

Earlier in the hearing, Raskin had drawn parallels between the attempts to attack Fauci and the House Oversight Committee's unsuccessful attempts to impeach President Joe Biden.

The hearing marked Fauci's first public appearance on Capitol Hill since his departure from the Biden administration. Since his tenure as the face of the Trump administration's coronavirus response, Fauci has been a target of scorn, often finding himself in a position to contradict former President Donald Trump's advice on combating COVID-19.
