In a recent public statement, Mary Trump, the estranged niece of former President Donald Trump, expressed her concerns about the potential consequences of her uncle securing a second term in the upcoming presidential election.

Mary Trump, the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., has been a vocal critic of the former president, scrutinizing his ongoing criminal trial over alleged "hush money" payments and his family history.

As the presumptive Republican nominee for the November election, Donald Trump is gearing up for a second face-off with President Joe Biden, following his loss in the 2020 election. The former reality TV star has consistently propagated the baseless claim that his defeat was the result of a "stolen" election.

In a recent post on Substack, Mary Trump expressed her apprehension about the upcoming election and its potential aftermath. She wrote, "Those of us paying attention—because we care, because we must, because we are too afraid to turn away—spend many of our waking moments freaked out about November and the potential aftermath."

She further criticized the public's perception of her uncle's administration, stating that many Americans erroneously credit Donald Trump for attempting to repair the damage inflicted by his predecessor, while overlooking the harm he himself has caused. She warned, "Tens of millions of [Americans] want to give him almost unlimited power which he will wield in ways that will destroy us. We know this is what will happen because that is what he and his co-conspirators are telling us, loudly and clearly."

Mary Trump also addressed the widespread belief that the country fared better under her uncle's administration, attributing this perception to the "trauma" of the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent CNN/SSRS poll revealed that 55 percent of Americans viewed Donald Trump's term as successful, while 61 percent considered Biden's tenure a failure.

In response to her uncle's popularity, Mary Trump, a trained psychologist, expressed her disbelief. She questioned, "In what universe is this even possible? How could so many people believe that the man who killed hundreds of thousands of Americans with COVID, who incited an armed insurrection against his own government, and who has been engaged in the big lie for almost four years in an attempt to break Americans' confidence in the very concept of free and fair elections is a better alternative to President Biden?"

She suggested that this widespread belief could be a form of "mass delusion," citing an article by clinical psychiatrists George Makari and Richard A. Friedman. The article posited that Biden "is paying the price for America's unprocessed COVID grief," as the height of the pandemic occurred during the final months of Donald Trump's term, with Biden assuming office in January 2021 amid the ongoing global crisis.

The article further explained that unprocessed emotional turmoil can result in a general sense of unhappiness and anger, potentially leading a nation to misperceive its fortunes. It suggested that in the face of overwhelming and painful realities like COVID, forgetting can be a useful coping mechanism, allowing people to focus on everyday life and regain a sense of control.

Mary Trump echoed this sentiment in her Substack post, stating, "Things didn't get better after Joe Biden won the 2020 election, they got worse." She attributed this deterioration to Donald Trump's refusal to concede the election, the January 6th insurrection, and the continued support of elected Republicans for Donald Trump and his unfounded claims about the election.

Following the false claims propagated by Donald Trump about the 2020 election, a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to prevent the certification of Biden's election victory. To date, the United States Attorney's Office District of Columbia has criminally charged approximately 1,387 individuals in connection with the Capitol riot.

Donald Trump currently faces four federal felony counts related to his actions surrounding the riot, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of an official proceeding. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Mary Trump concluded her post by warning that the nation cannot heal from its trauma while it continues to be traumatized. She criticized the Trump administration for exploiting divisions among the American people as a political strategy, expressing her fear that this approach may have been successful.

She ended her post with a stark warning, stating, "Given the failures to grapple with the betrayals and the source of them, we are close to putting back in the Oval Office the man who created the circumstances of our malaise, who killed many of us and cynically manufactured...horrible divisions among the rest of us, and who will, if given the opportunity, break us. It is quite literally stunning."
