In a recent House Judiciary Committee meeting, Representative Eric Swalwell publicly chastised his fellow Congress members who had journeyed to New York City to express their solidarity with former President Donald Trump.

Trump is currently embroiled in a legal battle, facing charges of falsified business records, a case spearheaded by District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Swalwell, with a hint of sarcasm, noted the presence of his colleagues, saying, "Well it’s nice to see that some of my colleagues on the other side can make it today." He further speculated on their attendance, suggesting that perhaps the courtroom in New York lacked sufficient seating, or that the Oversight Committee's decision to cancel a concurrent hearing on the matter was a factor.

Swalwell continued, "I know some members will miss this vote, because they want to be at the President’s trial." He then expressed his disapproval of their actions, arguing that their absence from votes and cancellation of hearings to attend Trump's trial epitomized the term 'do-nothing Congress.' He reiterated this sentiment, stating, "that is the definition of 'do-nothing Congress.'"

In a surprising turn, Swalwell declared the day a "celebration," revealing a timer on his computer screen that marked over two years since "Jim Jordan, our chairman, was subpoenaed and asked to comply with his subpoena for his role, his interaction with the former President on the January 6th attack of the Capitol."

Swalwell criticized the committee for having the audacity to demand "compliance from the Attorney General," while some of its members were not in compliance with their own subpoenas. He argued, "I actually think you should not be able to bring any subpoena of another person if you are out of compliance of your own subpoena. That seems to make a lot of sense to me."

The committee was in session to consider a resolution to hold President Biden’s attorney general in contempt of Congress. This was due to his refusal to comply with a subpoena demanding documents and recordings related to special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with Biden. The interview was part of an investigation into classified documents found at the President’s Delaware address and DC offices. The White House has claimed executive privilege over the audio recordings of the interview.

Swalwell pointed out that it was "Donald Trump’s prosecutor who cleared President Biden," and added that Hur had described Biden’s recall as "photogenic" in his report.

Swalwell concluded by questioning the motives of his colleagues, suggesting that their actions were a refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election. He accused them of supporting the rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6, and of rehashing the issues that incited the rioters just eight hours after the attack.
