In a recent development, the White House has declared its intention to invoke executive privilege over an audio recording of President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

Hur is currently investigating allegations of mishandling classified documents by the President.

The announcement was made in a letter addressed to Republican lawmakers, penned by White House counsel Edward Niskel. Niskel chastised the GOP for their role in transforming these investigations into a spectacle, accusing them of attempting to "undermine the very independence and impartiality of the Department of Justice".

The investigation found evidence of mishandling classified materials, discovered both at the President's residence and a Washington DC office. However, in his final report, Hur stated that he did not recommend criminal charges against Biden. This decision was influenced by the anticipated challenge of convincing a jury that the President had intentionally broken the law, thereby questioning the strength of the government's case against him.

This outcome has been a setback for Republicans, who have been exploring every possible avenue to discredit the sitting President. This comes at a time when their own Presidential candidate is facing an unprecedented 88 felony charges, including two criminal prosecutions related to his alleged efforts to obstruct the peaceful transition of power in 2020.
