A physical altercation involving a U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris' detail led to the agent's removal from their duties, as per information obtained by Fox News Digital.

The incident, which took place at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, was initially reported by The New York Post and later confirmed by a source to Fox News Digital.

The Vice President was at the Naval Observatory at the time and her departure from the base was not delayed due to the incident, according to the Secret Service. Anthony Guglielmi, the U.S. Secret Service's chief of communications, described the incident as a "medical matter," indicating that the agency would not be providing further comments.

Guglielmi shared a statement with Fox News Digital, stating, "At approximately 9 a.m. April 22, a U.S. Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President’s departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing." He further added, "The agent was removed from their assignment while medical personnel were summoned. The Vice President was at the Naval Observatory when this incident occurred and there was no impact on her departure from Joint Base Andrews."

Real Clear Politics reported that the agent, who had been behaving "erratically," started physically assaulting the special agent in charge. Following the incident, the agent was handcuffed and received medical attention. The agent had previously been a subject of concern among staff, according to the report. Guglielmi concluded, "The U.S. Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously. As this was a medical matter, we will not disclose any further details."
