Threat Or Promise? Democratic Hopeful's Controversial Message: "Die MAGA Die"

In a recent social media post, Nate McMurray, a Democratic congressional candidate from New York, celebrated the passing of a $60 billion aid bill for Ukraine by the House.

He also expressed his desire for the demise of the MAGA movement, a sentiment that has sparked controversy.

McMurray, who is vying for a seat in New York's 26th Congressional District, took to social media platform X on Saturday afternoon, posting "Slava Ukraine," followed by "Die MAGA die. You lose." The latter part of his message was directed at supporters of former President Trump and proponents of the "Make America Great Again" platform.

The U.S. House had just passed a bill providing $60 billion to Ukraine, which is currently embroiled in a war with Russia. The aid package was approved with a vote of 311 to 112. Interestingly, more Republicans voted against the bill, with 112 nays, compared to 101 yeas.

McMurray's political journey includes serving as the town supervisor of the Town of Grand Island and working as an attorney. His current campaign is focused on representing parts of Erie and Niagara counties in the western region of New York.

The bill's passage has been met with resistance from some conservatives, who argue against funding Ukraine while the U.S. grapples with its own border crisis. Some Republicans voted against the bill due to its lack of provisions for securing the U.S. border.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, voiced his opposition, stating, "Today, I voted no... These bills were brought forward under a contrived process to achieve a pre-determined outcome – a $100 billion, unpaid-for foreign aid package while failing to secure the border."

He further criticized the bill for being a reversal of the Republican conference's previous stance, which insisted on securing the U.S. border before sending additional aid to Ukraine. Roy emphasized the "clear & present danger" posed by the southern border to U.S. national security.

Rep. Ben Cline, R-Va, echoed these sentiments on Saturday, highlighting the struggles of states and cities dealing with the consequences of Biden’s border crisis, the impact of inflation on American households, and the country's staggering $34 trillion debt. He urged Congress and the Biden administration to prioritize the concerns of the American people.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a Trump supporter, has been particularly vocal in her criticism of Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., for his support of the bill. She labeled him a "traitor to our country" and is spearheading an effort to remove him as speaker.

McMurray's "Die MAGA die" comment has drawn significant backlash on social media, with some interpreting it as a wish for the death of MAGA movement voters. Some users reported McMurray to X for allegedly inciting violence.

In response to the controversy, McMurray posted another message directed at Trump supporters, suggesting that the MAGA movement should "expire," "fade," or "disintegrate."

Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to McMurray's campaign for additional comments on the posts and the ensuing criticisms but received no immediate response.

In a separate development, McMurray is currently embroiled in a lawsuit filed by a Democratic competitor in the House race, state Sen. Tim Kennedy. Kennedy has petitioned a state court to remove McMurray's name from the Democratic primary ballot, alleging that over 1,000 signatures collected for McMurray's electoral petition are invalid due to fraud or being collected by an ineligible canvasser. McMurray has refuted these allegations.

The 26th District was previously represented by Democrat Brian Higgins, who officially resigned in February. A special election is scheduled for April 30 to fill the vacancy for the remainder of Higgins' term. McMurray is only contesting in the Democratic primary for the general election in November and will not participate in the special election.
