A group of young African American voters in Georgia have expressed their disillusionment with President Joe Biden, stating they will not be supporting him in the 2024 election.

Despite Biden securing approximately 92% of the African American vote in the 2020 election, recent polls suggest that his support among this demographic has been dwindling.

These young voters, who spoke to CNN at a barbecue restaurant in Atlanta, cited the Israel-Hamas conflict as a significant factor in their declining support for Biden. They also made it clear that their disillusionment with Biden does not translate into support for former President Donald Trump.

Rokiya Garbo, one of the voters, stated, “If I were to vote tomorrow, I wouldn’t vote period,” adding, “We have no trust in Joe Biden.” Another voter, Mozn Shora, expressed her preference for a third-party candidate.

The competition for Biden and Trump appears to be coming from independent candidates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West of the “Justice for All Party,” and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Lonnie White, another voter, told CNN, “I will vote for an independent candidate.”

Malik Poole, another voter, is considering voting for socialist candidate Claudia De La Cruz or Cornel West. He stated, “If there is no substantive policy change when it comes to the genocide in Gaza, then there’s not really a discussion for me.”

All four voters were raised as Democrats and are registered as such. Shora criticized Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, stating, “I think what Biden has done in aiding and abetting in a genocide is just something I cannot stand for.”

Despite advocating for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and providing aid to Israel, Biden's support is waning in key battleground states, including Georgia. White pointed out, “If he doesn’t get elected, that is his fault. That’s not our fault. That’s not the black voters here. That’s not X, Y and Z. No, it’s on him.”

Recent polls suggest that Biden's declining popularity among younger voters is linked to his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. His support among African American voters in battleground states has dropped from 91% in 2020 to 68%, according to a recent poll by The Wall Street Journal.

MAGA Inc., a major super PAC supporting Trump, launched a three-week radio ad campaign in March targeting African American voters in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. One ad criticizes Biden for prioritizing “transgender equality,” alleging that he does not value African American voters.
