In the aftermath of the tragic Baltimore bridge collapse that claimed the lives of six immigrant workers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has urged former President Trump to express solidarity with the victims.

Speaking on MSNBC's "Inside with Jen Psaki," Buttigieg highlighted the importance of bipartisan support in the face of such a human tragedy.

The fatal incident occurred on the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore when a colossal container vessel collided with the bridge. The workers, all immigrants, were engaged in road maintenance work at the time of the accident. Out of the eight workers present on the bridge that night, six lost their lives.

Buttigieg emphasized the crucial role of these workers, many of whom are immigrants, in maintaining the country's infrastructure. He noted that while these jobs might not be glamorous or high-paying, they are undeniably essential. He further stressed the importance of acknowledging the value of these workers at a human level.

Buttigieg's comments came during his visit to Baltimore with President Biden, a little over a week after the tragic incident. Standing against the backdrop of the bridge wreckage, President Biden pledged to "move heaven and Earth" to rebuild the structure.

However, the funding for the bridge's reconstruction has sparked a debate among lawmakers. While President Biden has assured federal funding for the project, some conservatives argue that it is a regional issue. On the other hand, some liberals suggest that the owner of the shipping vessel should bear some of the repair costs.

The container ship, named The Dali, was en route to Sri Lanka from the Baltimore Harbor when it lost power and crashed into the bridge. Last week, the ship's owner and the management company appealed to a federal judge to limit their legal liability for the incident.

The Hill has sought a comment from Trump's campaign regarding Buttigieg's call for solidarity. The former president has yet to acknowledge the tragic incident and the loss of the immigrant workers.
